Coquette Cases Toronto Fashion Week

Coquette hit the big city this year for Toronto Fashion Week to gather inspiration as well as try to create a buzz about the upcoming catalouges being released this year. Coquette owner and director of design Catherine Horea, head designer Elaine Carson and Carrie Russell mixed and mingled and took in several of this year's runway shows.

As soon as the team entered the event it was apparent Coquette's style mavens made a splash. Fashion file immediately flagged Carson down to speak to her about her outfit and style ethics(which was a pvc piece from the upcoming Darque collection to be released in Paris in January). The ladies posed for countless pictures for style websites and proved to be inspiration for several young designers that approached the team.

Coquette's reputation in the U.S.A as well as Europe has made the company a strong force in the lingerie industry, and the company is ready to get noticed by the Canadian Fashionistas. Watching the runway shows as well as attending shows at night sponsored by INK fashion, the Coquette designers are charged and ready to infuse their new main line with some fresh ideas.

Penthouse Lingerie Release in Vegas at the Magic Show

Coquette Debuts Penthouse Lingerie 2009 at Magic Show

Coquette International and Penthouse have been teamed up to produce the Penthouse lingerie line since 2005. This year the partnership has hit its stride and released the 2009 Penthouse lingerie collection at the Magic Show in Las Vegas, Nevada. Coquette’s marketing and design teams along with the Penthouse Media Group have given the project a facelift and have created a youthful and exciting collection.

Using fresh prints and design elements the collection has been divided into four distinct groupings that include: Sexy Pet, Wild Pet, Sweet Pet and Naughty Pet.

The Sexy Pet collection uses a classic lingerie color combination of red and black in a cherry print knit. The grouping has a retro feel and is designed to appeal to women age 16-25. The garments feature lines that are feminine and inspired by the vintage hot rods the 1950’s pin-up was associated with.

The Sweet Pet grouping combines the colors pink, sea-foam green and lavender tied together in kitschy cupcake print cotton. Overall, this collection is targeted towards the ultimate girly girl ages 16-25 and features details such as bows, ruffles and ribbon ties. In keeping with the pin-up theme, this collection captures the “Cheesecake” type pinup that has come to represent the alluring side of the girl next door.

This year’s Wild Pet group combines black wet look knit with a leopard print in a red, ivory and black color way. The group has a more edgy feel and appeals to a more wild woman ages 16-35. Inspired by the Hollywood bad girl whose “bad” behavior delights the press and public. The garments within the group range from risqué bedroom wear to pieces that can be styles to wear out to the club.

The Naughty Pet collection has a palate in black, pink and red within a tattoo heart print knit. The team has combined the eye catching print with black denim to create a rock’n’roll collection. The grouping will appeal to women ages 16-35. The collection includes sexy separates and some pieces that are suited to wear as both lingerie and steamy street wear. Details like eyelets, lacing and handcuff charms are reminiscent of the aesthetic of the glam rockers of the decedent 80’s.

The new lingerie collection is already turning the heads of major North American retailers who recognize that the Penthouse lingerie line appeals to a range of customers who are eager to spend on lingerie that is flirty and energetic. At this year’s Magic Show a retail buyer commented,

“This [Penthouse lingerie] line is exactly what I need to attract a new clientele to my shop. Even my
established customers will be excited to see something fresh featured. This business is so competitive and I think Coquette’s Penthouse line will give me an edge over the other retailers in my area.”

Coquette Loves Curves

Coquette’s sexy reputation for creating erotic lingerie has been seducing customers for decades. Attributing to the company’s success is Coquette’s ability to address consumer demand. Coquette’s flirty styles and company mantra has been turning the heads of the increasingly lucrative plus sized market. Coquette Vice President and Director of Design, Catherine Horea explains, “creating sensual lingerie is our business, but it is about more than bras and panties. It is about making every customer look as sexy on the outside and she feels on the inside, regardless of size”. Keeping the fabrics and designs fresh is only half the work, knowing the ever evolving clientele is the most challenging in terms of staying relevant as a fashion-forward lingerie company.

The company began by offering a single catalog modeling a limited number of groupings. Today Coquette fans can browse 5 catalogs, each with a different flavor. Beyond appealing to their customers’ varied esthetic tastes, the company has seen an increased interest from plus sized customers and has responded by adding many styles in according sizes. “Plus sized women are not satisfied with old fashioned nighties, they spend money on getting their nails, hair and make-up done and are tired of being expected to hide their curves in the boudoir”, says Coquette’s head designer Elaine Carson. The company offers their curvy customers classic pieces such as rich satin corsets and glamorous gowns and does not shy away from offering more risqué designs in 1X/2X sizing. This year’s holiday catalog includes a sheer babydoll, crotchless panty and peak-a-boo g-string for the plus sized customers. The catalog has a section dedicated to the plus sized styles this year that showcases the new curvy red headed Coquette Diva.

Coquette’s masquerade catalog has also evolved to include more designs suitably sized for the Coquette Diva. Known for their risqué role playing costumes in the lingerie industry, Coquette has included a layered sexy waitress costume for the frisky plus sized customer. As well as including 1X/2X costumes in the masquerade catalog, the 2009 Darque collection also keeps the Diva in mind. The fetish-wear line includes pieces like wetlook leggings and pvc bustiers for the XL (X-tra Lovely) lady. In the future Coquette looks forward to gracing the curves of all of its fabulous fans from sizes 6 to 20.

Holiday 2009 by Coquette Lingerie

Coquette International, a leader in the adult lingerie industry, has released its 2009 holiday collection. This year’s groupings are sure to appeal to the sexy siren as well as the seductive mature woman. While other companies find it difficult to appeal to such a range of clients, Coquette focuses on what is at the heart of almost all of their fans. Designer Carrie Russell explains, “We know that each and every one of our customers is unique but they all want essentially the same thing…and that is to be is to look and feel sexy. We’ve never shied away from what is erotic or risqué and keep in mind that often the sexiest garments are the one’s that showcase our clients’ best assets.”

This year’s collection has many classics such as rich satin corsets in warm tones like gold and burgundy, as well as fresh prints including leopard, argyle and candy stripe. With the growing demand for Coquette’s Darque line, the designers have added in a fetish x-mas grouping for those who are on the holiday naughty list. Many of the styles are offered in plus size which has proven to be a market Coquette draws more and more attention from with each catalog release.

Well known for being the first in the field with adult role playing costumes, Coquette has carried the idea of couples’ play into the new collection. Many of the dynamic prints seen in the women’s garments have been included in men’s boxer briefs, creating matching his and her sets. The company expresses their kitschy and playful side with fun pieces like the men’s “present” boxer and the new women’s “candy cane” dress.

Penthouse Lingerie 2009 by Coquette

Since 2005 Coquette’s partnership with adult magazine forerunner Penthouse has flourished. The band new line will be launched at the Magic Show this year in Las Vegas in cooperation with the Penthouse Media Group, August 25-27th 2008. Directly after the Magic show Coquette will be featuring the collection at the International Lingerie Show in Las Vegas Nevada on September 15 2008. Coquette’s sales team is looking forward to introducing the fresh line to both existing customers and attracting a potentially whole new client base.

Coquette has given the Penthouse grouping a facelift and working with Amanda Byrd (Director of Licensing) have divided the line into 4 distinct “Penthouse Pet Personalities” including Sexy, Sweet, Wild and Naughty Pet. Organizing the line in such a way gave the designers a chance to explore 4 major fashion/lingerie trends including pinup, fetish, rock and roll aesthetic and the blending of street wear with lingerie. Head designer Elaine Carson explains, “Our 2009 Penthouse line asks the customer what kind of Penthouse Pet they feel like whether it is Sexy, Wild, Sweet or a bit Naughty”.

Using dynamic and energetic prints and fabrics like cupcake, leopard, tattoo heart and cherry patterns each group within the collection has its own sassy flavor. Inspired by female archetypes like the 1950’s pin-up, the Hollywood starlet, the girl-next-door and the wild child, the line offers styles that suit any woman’s mood and include styles that range from darling to daring.

By including styles such as bra and panty sets, chemises and corsets the collection will still appeal to the traditional buyer but by adding some more trendy prints and designs Coquette is set to broaden it’s customer base and open fresh and lucrative doors with the Penthouse licensing agreement. This year’s Penthouse collection includes identifiable “Penthouse” embroidered branding as well as a new set of printed boy-cut type panties with each theme on both the front and the back. Though branding is important in the apparel industry in your face logos do not lend themselves to contributing to sexy designs. As a team we feel we have found the balance between utilizing the Penthouse brand and keeping a fun, fresh and sexy line for this collection.
